Black & Blue

This artist book was created during a residency at the Whiteley Center in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington State. It contains driftwood prints and ink wash drawings with stitching and stitched text. The residency occurred weeks after my father passed away in 2021 and it gave me time to reflect and grieve. I felt like going dark, and used India ink to stain the wooden covers and the red leather lining. This grieving process became not only a period of mourning for the loss of my father - surrounded by marine research at Friday Harbor Labs and the natural environment, I began to think of all that will be lost in future decades due to global warming and human neglect.
