Cetus
The North Atlantic Right Whale is experiencing what is called an Unusual Mortality Event. As of 2024 there are approximately 340 whales left, including 70 reproductively viable females. Deaths are currently outpacing births, mainly due to human interaction including vessel strikes and entanglement in fishing gear. Ocean noise interferes with their natural behavior and increases stress levels. Soon they will be gone, and when we look up at the stars we’ll see the constellations and be reminded of all the species that used to roam the earth.
