Integumentary

The Integumentary System - skin, feathers, nails, hair, scales: protect the body from damage. In the process of protection the skin itself can be damaged, but it can also be sewn together and has the capacity to heal. We all have damaged lives, but through process and progression, we too can heal. These bird prints were first used in an installation and artist book about friends and family - each one has a story. I still hear this silent back story, and even though it isn't written, I hope these birds still intimate that there is more to learn about them.

Ethiopian binding, quarter sawn oak covers with leather lining, woven leather end band, handmade cotton end sheets, handmade kozo paper pages with linoleum block prints, letterpress and sewing, 2019, 12” X 9 1/4” X 2”. This artist book can be found at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, in the Cynthia Sears Collection.
